A Guarantee of Origin (GoO) is an electronic document certifying that 1 MWh of electrical energy consumed has been generated from renewable sources or efficient cogeneration. Issued to producers per the electricity market law and the EU Renewable Energy Directive, it aims to boost renewable energy use, create market demand, and enable eco-friendly consumer choices. These certificates also support investment in the renewable energy sector.
Purchasing Guarantees of Origin allows consumers to support ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals, ensuring their electricity consumption is environmentally friendly. This aids in reducing carbon footprint and promotes sustainable energy, reflecting the company's commitment to environmental and social responsibility.
The quantity of Guarantees of Origin must equal the amount of electricity consumed during the respective period in megawatt-hours. The quantity of Guarantees of Origin should be rounded up to the nearest MWh. For example, if your consumption last year was 3.4 MWh, you should purchase Guarantees of Origin for 4 MWh.
You can see the amount of electricity consumed in Elering's customer portal. If you are not the owner of a measuring point, ask the measuring point owner for this information or add up the electricity consumed on the basis of your own electricity bills.
When purchasing Guarantees of Origin, select the consumption year you wish to certify as renewable energy-based, like 2024. These certificates validate past periods' consumption, as the exact quantity consumed is known. The consumption of renewable energy from the previous year can be certified until March 31st.
Guarantees of Origin bought from Rohesert.ee are 100% carbon-neutral, sourced exclusively from wind, solar, or hydro energy.
Customers can confirm the use of their Guarantees of Origin by logging into the Elering's renewable energy information system, which provides an overview of their electricity's origin.
To prove the origin of consumed electricity, certificates issued in Estonia or a European Economic Area contracting country, and deleted in the Estonian Origin Certificate Register, are used. If you wish to purchase certificates from a specific country, please contact us directly.
Guarantees of Origin are available for companies registered in Estonia, Estonian citizens with a personal identification code, and non-residents, provided the electricity consumption is in Estonia. Non-Estonian residents should contact us separately using the website form.
Yes, you can. In this case, please tick the appropriate box in the online shop and provide the name of the purchaser, the address of the location, and the name of the owner of the measuring point. The same applies if you don't own the measuring point.
